Image to Pixel Art (picturetopixelart.com) is a free online tool that you can use to turn any photo or image into pixel art. This tool is browser-based, so no sign-up, no upload to a server, and no watermarks on your downloads!
Why We Built This
Most image editing tools online require you to sign up for an account, upload your images and wait for them to process on remote servers. Some of them even charge you for the ability to download your edited work with no watermark.
We wanted to create a tool that’s super simple to use: upload an image, adjust a few sliders, and within seconds, you’re left with a clean pixel art result without handing your photos over to anyone.
So that’s what we built. Everything runs directly in your browser using HTML canvas, which means your images never leave your device.
What You Can Do With It
We don’t just provide a “pixelate” button. You have full control over your pixel art:
- Adjustable pixel size, from fine detail to chunky retro-style blocks.
- Sharp or smooth sampling, for a crisp graphic look or softer, blended edges.
- Retro color palettes, like DMG and other classic console styles.
- Color quantization, set the number of colors the final image will have.
- Brightness, contrast, and saturation controls, to tweak the source image before it’s pixelated.
- A pixel grid overlay, for working in a sprite editor and re-creating your work by hand.
- Multiple export formats, including PNG, JPEG, and WebP, at your choice of size.

Privacy by Design

Image to Pixel Art is completely free to use. There is no limit to the number of images you can convert, and your finished artwork will be provided to you without a watermark. We run ads on the site to try and keep the lights on, rather than charging for a subscription or pay per use model.
